چکیده

The nanocavitation distribution in deformed High Density PolyEthylene (HDPE) was investigated. A flat notched sample of HDPE, under steady crosshead speed up to the end stress softening, observed by classical synchrotron parallel beam microtomography and magnified holotomography with a true spatial resolution 0.7 μm 0.05 μm, respectively. Image processing, 3D image segmentation 2D-Fast Fourier Transform, shown lead quantification void volume fraction size distributions. Nanocavitation morphology HDPE reveal be similar cavitation mechanisms other semi-crystalline polymers, but at different scale. While slight decrease diameter seen, from neck shoulder extended region, significant increment height evidenced. Furthermore, results provide compelling evidence transition cavities within test an oblate prolate geometry.

Determination of the packing fraction in photonic glass using synchrotron radiation nanotomography

Photonic glass is a material class that can be used as photonic broadband reflectors, for example in the infrared regime as thermal barrier coating films. Photonic properties such as the reflectivity depend on the ordering and material packing fraction over the complete film thickness of up to 100 µm. Nanotomography allows acquiring these key parameters throughout the sample volume at the requi...

Modeling benzene permeation through drinking water high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes.

Organic compounds such as benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and o-, m-, and p-xylene from contaminated soil and groundwater may permeate through thermoplastic pipes which are used for the conveyance of drinking water in water distribution systems. In this study, permeation parameters of benzene in 25 mm (1 inch) standard inside dimension ratio (SIDR) 9 high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes were ...

Ultrasonic Phased Array Examination of Butt Fusion Joints of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Pipe

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) piping has been used in place of steel alloys in the petrochemical, power, and mining industries due to its exceptional resistance to corrosion and erosion. Recently, HDPE has also been used for nuclear safety-related cooling water applications. The application of nuclear quality assurance requirements creates reasonable assurance that the production fusion join...

Diffusion of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) through a high density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane.

The new applications for carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in various fields and consequently their greater production volume have increased their potential release to the environment. Landfills are one of the major locations where carbon nanotubes are expected to be disposed and it is important to ensure that they can limit the release of CNTs. Diffusion of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) dispersed ...

A novel wood flour-filled composite based on microfibrillar high-density polyethylene (HDPE)/Nylon-6 blends.

A novel wood flour (WF)-filled composite based on the microfibrillar high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and Nylon-6 co-blend, in which both in situ formed Nylon-6 microfibrils and WF acted as reinforcing elements, was successfully developed using a two-step extrusion method. At the 30wt.% WF loading level, WF-filled composite based on the microfibrillized HDPE/Nylon-6 blend exhibited higher stren...
